For the first time ever, Palm Beach County may earn the right to ban people from its park.
The measure being proposed at Tuesday’s county commission meeting could keep repeat offenders out.
The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department says it has seen people committing crimes inside its parks and natural areas.
Those falling in this category are those who rob people, are caught selling drugs, having sex in public places and are possibly stealing things from the parks.
The problem right now the county says is that it has no way of keeping repeat offenders out.
With this law, officers could issue a trespass notice; requiring first time violators to stay out for a year, second time violators for 5 years and 10 years for any further violations.
Notices could be appealed within 10 days of issuance by filling a request and paying a $20 fee. A Palm Beach County special magistrate will then make a ruling.
If approved Tuesday, this law will go before the public for a public hearing on April 19.
