WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - One of the men accused in a Loxahatchee animal cruelty case in October appeared in court Thursday.
Orlando Guzman had originally been released on bond. He was back in court so the state could set the stipulations of his pre-trial release.
In court, the judge was told Guzman currently has 6 horses, a dog, a cat and chickens on his property.
The state requested that he be required to remove the animals from his property. However, the judge said because Guzman is only charged with possession of horse meat and there's no evidence he was slaughtering horses, the court could not keep him from having animals.
The judge did order for weekly checks on the animals on Guzman's property by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Guzman is prohibited from doing any slaughtering.
According to Guzman's attorney, the animals are racing horses which he trains.
