A Loxahatchee man was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday after his wife died in a crash while the couple was having sex and he was driving intoxicated.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says Matthew Notebaert’s and his wife had just left a country music concert on the night of March 9, 2014.

The two were having sex when Notebaert drove into a canal off East Stallion Drive.

The crash left his wife, Amanda Notebaert dead and Matthew was severely injured. At the hospital, deputies confirmed Matthew was drunk.

In a police report, authorities say Notebaert admitted to being naked with Amanda and that she was sitting on his lap when he drove off the end of the road and struck the opposite canal.

After his five-year sentence, Notebaert will be on probation for five years.
