The Idaho State Police is reporting that an officer involved shooting has left one man dead and a deputy injured.

On Sunday, Nov. 1 at 6:45 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a passenger car and a bull near Council, Idaho.

Emergency crews arrived on scene and discovered that the driver and passenger involved in the crash needed to be extricated from the vehicle, but the injured bull was charging at first responders and other vehicles creating a dangerous situation.

As deputies prepared to put down the injured bull, the owner, identified as Jack Yantis, 62, of Council, Idaho, arrived on scene.

“The events that transpired over the course of the next few minutes are under investigation but, at this time, it is believed that two deputies and Mr. Yantis all fired their weapons,” Idaho State Police wrote in a statement.

One deputy sustained a minor injury.

"Our thoughts are with our community and especially all those involved in this incident," said Adams County Sheriff Ryan Zollman. "The Adams County Sheriff's Office takes matters involving any use of force very seriously and we have requested detectives with the Idaho State Police to conduct the investigation into this incident."

The deputies involved are on paid administrative leave per agency policy.

Their names are not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

The two people who were involved in the accident were transported to Boise by air ambulance with unknown injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information is expected to be released today.
