George Young, an influential rock musician and one of the masterminds behind the legendary band AC/DC has died. He was 70 years old.

Born in Scotland, Young moved to Australia with his family in 1963. There, he joined the band Easybeats as the group's guitarist and lead songwriter. The band has been influential in Australian rock, and found international fame with their single "Friday On My Mind."

When Young's younger brothers Macolm and Angus formed a band in 1973, George offered a guiding hand both sonically and behind the scenes. AC/DC eventually grew into an international sensation and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

AC/DC posted on Facebook Monday that "we will always remember him with gratitude and hold him close to our hearts."

It's not yet clear how Young died.
