The New York Daily News ran a provocative front page Thursday morning after several GOP candidates requested "thoughts and prayers" in response to the San Bernardino shootings.

The cover reads: "As latest batch of innocent Americans are left lying in pools of blood, cowards who could truly end gun scourge continue to hide behind meaningless platitudes."

It points to the tweets from Republicans Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham and Rand Paul, who all responded asking for "prayers."

The shooting killed 14 people. Gun control advocates in media and politics have again called for stricter laws after this latest incident.

The New York Post also ran its own controversial cover Thursday morning (warning: graphic).
