Mike Sherman fired by Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have fired offensive coordinator Mike Sherman.

Sun Sentinel beat reporter Omar Kelly tweeted out the news around 1:30 p.m.

On Miamidolphins.com head coach Joe Philbin issued this statement: "I would like to thank Mike for his contributions to the Miami Dolphins," Philbin said. "Mike has been a mentor to me throughout my coaching career, dating back to 1979. He is a man of great integrity, dedicated to his family, his team, his players and his profession. On behalf of the entire Miami Dolphins organization I want to wish Mike and his family the very best in the future."

Team owner Stephen Ross recently met with the coaching staff and general manager after the Dolphins lost their final two regular season games and failed to make the playoffs.

Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero is reporting that Philbin will be back for a third season. It's not clear if anyone else will be terminated.
