An American pastor who's been detained in Turkey since 2016 could get released as soon as Friday.
That's according to NBC News, which was told by unnamed sources that the Trump administration recently reached a deal with Turkey over Andrew Brunson.
The pastor's been at the heart of rising tensions between the U.S. and Turkey, which have led to escalating sanctions and tariffs. Brunson's accused of terrorism and espionage and faces up to 35 years in prison if convicted.
Under the terms of the reported deal, Turkey would drop some of the charges against Brunson at a Friday court hearing in exchange for the U.S. lifting sanctions.
At least part of the deal was reportedly negotiated in September when both U.S. and Turkish officials were in New York City for the U.N. General Assembly meeting.
