President Obama toasts solo French president at state dinner

Francois Hollande 'dateless' at White House event

WASHINGTON (AP) -- French President Francois Hollande's public breakup from his first lady was the talk of the town that no one seemed to want to talk about at a White House state dinner in his honor.

And President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama found just the right seat for the Frenchman who ended up coming to dinner without his "plus one." They put him in between them.

Mrs. Obama wore a black and liberty blue silk gown by Carolina Herrera.

Some 350 guests were treated to a four-course dinner in a huge party pavilion on the South Lawn.

Singer Mary J. Blige provided the entertainment.

The White House invitation to Hollande and his partner was issued last fall. They unexpectedly parted company last month.
