Rebecca Sedwick: Mother of teen charged in Rebecca Sedwick case faces child abuse charges

POLK COUNTY - The mother of a teen who was recently charged in the bullying of Rebecca Sedwick is facing multiple child abuse charges, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

At a press conference Friday afternoon, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said, "I can tell you this, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

The teen daughter of 30-year-old Vivian Vosburg was recently charged with stalking on Oct. 14 after the teen admitted on her Facebook page that she bullied Rebecca Sedwick and she didn't care.

Sedwick took her own life by jumping off a silo at a cement plant. According to the sheriff's department, Vosburg's charges stem from a video posted on Facebook.

In the video, there were two underage boys fighting, and Vosburg reportedly got involved, punching them and screaming profanities.

Officials blurred out the faces of the juveniles involved, but you can hear children screaming and getting slapped.

Sheriff Judd said Vosburg is the same person who told at least two different media outlets, "My daughter would never bully anybody."

The incident took place in the bedroom of the residence. Six children between the ages of  9 – 14 were observed in the home during the video. Sheriff Grady Judd said the department got several tips from residents about the posted video. It was posted to Facebook in July of 2013.

The Department of Children and Families contacted each child from the video to determine their well-being, and all of them were located at their schools.

Officials then conducted an interview with Vosburg Thursday, and she admitted to being the woman in the video, but said she was trying to break up the fight.

She then admitted to punching one juvenile in the face and another juvenile several times on the back of his head and in between his shoulders.

She said she continued to hit one juvenile after the other fell on the floor, because he was attempting to get up from the bed. Vosburg said she knew she shouldn't have hit them with her fists.

After reviewing the video, detectives arrested Vosburg Friday. She has been charged with 2 counts of Child Abuse with Bodily Harm and 4 counts of child neglect.
