Vincent Caccavano: Port St. Lucie 7-Eleven customer, clerk help catch suspected donation jar thief

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A Port St. Lucie man is in custody after police said he stole a donation jar from a 7-Eleven on Sunday night.

Police said around 11 p.m. the suspect, identified as Vincent Caccavano, walked into the store located at 1690 SE Walton Road and walked out with the donation jar containing $102.28.

Luis Alamo, a customer, told police that as he was walking into the convenience store, he saw Caccavano walking outside and carrying a clear plastic donation jar.

Police said the jar was kept on the counter near the check out cash register. 

Investigators said that Alamo told the clerk that a customer just walked out of the store with the donation jar. 

Officers said that Alamo and the clerk left the store to follow Caccavano, who was headed south on SE Village Green Drive. 

As Alamo and the clerk were following Caccavano, a Port St. Lucie police officer arrived and arrested Caccavano.

Police said that the donation jar was given back  to 7-Eleven.

According to police, Caccavano told police he needed the money for his family. He was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail and booked on theft charges.
