Marisha L. Johnson: Port St. Lucie woman charged with leaving boy, 2, in car while she shopped

PORT ST. LUCIE — A Port St. Lucie woman was arrested Sunday after she allegedly left her car running with a 2-year-old boy alone inside while she shopped at Walgreens.

Marisha L. Johnson, 26, who lives in the 2000 block of Southeast Wild Meadow Circle, was charged with child neglect without great harm, records show. She was released Sunday from the St. Lucie County Jail after posting a $3,750 bond.

A Port St. Lucie police officer reports when he spotted the car, its engine was running, a rear window was open and the boy was unrestrained in a car seat. A bystander watched the child while the officer went into the store and found Johnson, an arrest affidavit said. She had entered the store about 10 minutes earlier, it said.

By the time the officer returned to the car, the boy had climbed into the front seat and was playing with the steering wheel, the affidavit said.
