Karmen the K-9 is back on the job at the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office after bad fall last year

Doctor who treated Karmen wouldn't accept payment

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. - Karmen the K-9 is heading to work after being hurt on the job last December.

Karmen works for the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office.

She slipped, fell and broke her leg when she and her "human partner" were searching for drugs on a boat.

Veterinarians at Tri-County Animal Hospital cared for the K-9.

Karmen did have to have surgery before returning to work this weekend.

Sheriff Ken Mascara says Dr. Brian Daubs refused to be paid for taking care of Karmen.
