24-year-old man shot early Saturday in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - — A 24-year-old man was shot Saturday while he was drinking beer with friends outside his apartment in the Live Oak Villas.

The victim was critically wounded and taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute.

Police wouldn't identify the victim, pending notification of family members.

A group of men approached the victim and his friends at about 3 a.m. on the 900 block of South 25th Street, police said.

One of the men hollered, "You weren't expecting this!"

A gunman then shot the victim once.
