DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - An 86-year-old man was found dead early Monday morning in a Delray Beach house fire.
The city's fire and rescue public information officer said crews arrived at the Rainberry Estates on Riviera Drive around 12:45 a.m.
Crews battled heavy smoke and fire burning through the roof, according to Cpt. Kevin Saxton, Delray Beach Fire & Rescue Public Information Officer.
The fire was extinguished around 1:30 a.m. and then the man's body was discovered in the master bedroom.
The victim was the only one in the structure at the time of the fire, said Saxton. The roof of the home was partially collapsed, making the house unlivable.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Officials said it could take an extended amount of time due to the extent of the fire. The name of the victim is being withheld until family members are notified.
