Office Depot, Office Max merger OK'd by shareholders, goverment must still give blessing

Office Depot CEO optimistic about staying in Fla.

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Shareholders agreed Wednesday to a merger between major Boca Raton employer Office Depot and OfficeMax.

The CEO of Office Depot says he is optimistic about keeping the company headquarters in Boca Raton, with offices on Military Trail.

There are about 1700 employees there, with room to grow. The building can add 500-600 more positions.

Other reasons the retailer might stay include no state income tax in Florida, warmer weather, and a longer lease compared to the lease OfficeMax has in Naperville, Illinois.

A decision whether to stay in Florida could come any day.

The merger still needs government approval.
