BOCA RATON, Fla. — One Lake Worth woman is able to see again thanks to a free surgery.

“Gracias a dios y gracias por la bendición de dios y al doctor, por eso yo estoy bien,” said 68-year-old Eulalia Miguel in Spanish to WPTV reporter Janny Rodriguez.

In Spanish, Eulalia said she is thankful for God, for his blessing and her surgeon, Dr. Matthew Weiss, an ophthalmologist at Eye Associates of Boca Raton.

Weiss donated Eulalia's much-needed cataract surgery in partnership with Caridad Center. The center refers patients who can't afford the procedure to Eye Associates.

The surgeries are possible thanks to The Gift of Sight program, which includes the annual "Gift of Sight Day," the Monday before Thanksgiving when Weiss and other physicians of the

Eye Associates of Boca Raton performed 20 sight-restoring eye surgeries.

“No sabe la letra, pero estoy mirando claro y también los números, ahora si, no como antes,” said Eulalia.

She explained she doesn't know how to read, but she can now see letters and numbers -- something she says was impossible before her surgery.

"She was unable to even see room lights and whether they’re on or off,” said Weiss.

Eulalia walked in to the outpatient surgery center of Boca Raton legally blind and after a 10-minute surgery she was actually able to walk out without needing help.

“She gets her life back, which is really great to see, and it’s one of the reasons that I’m glad to have Caridad. They do a lot of good for the community, and I’m glad to be able to be a part of that,” said Weiss.
