Trying to find missing son
Brian Entin reports
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is looking for a 19-year-old missing Boca Raton teenager.
Jason Elks' family says the teen left the Delray Beach Medical Center's psychiatric ward early Thursday morning.
"All he had on was the hospital gown. How can this happen? How could he get out of a locked facility," Jason's father Arthur Elk said.
He appeared at their Polo Club home briefly, but then took off with no shoes on early Thursday morning. Family members say he has an anxiety disorder.
"The worst nightmare a parent can have is their child out with no resources," Elk said.
Arthur Elk says his nightmare began on Tuesday when his son crashed a Mercedes SUV into a pond on the Lynn University campus where he is a student.
The teen climbed out of the sunroof of the car and took off. His family says he later appeared and was taken to a hospital under the 'Baker Act' by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The family was shocked to get the call Thursday morning that he was no longer at the hospital.
"It's the last call I expected to get. We were hoping he would get the help he needs, and now we're out here looking for him again," Elk said.
Elk and his daughter HIllary went around Boca Thursday passing out flyers with Jason's picture on it.
"As a sister, you just want him to be okay. I can't even begin to tell you all the emotions I'm feeing right now," Hillary Elk said.
Family members believe Jason is in the Boca/Delray Beach area.
If you have any idea where he is, call the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
