Firefighters rescue woman trapped in car in canal in suburban Boca Raton

SUBURBAN BOCA RATON, Fla. - A woman was rescued Friday evening after her car fell in a canal at West Palmetto Park and St. Andrews Boulevard in suburban Boca Raton, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters responded at 9:29 p.m. to reports of a car in a shallow canal with a woman trapped inside. Arriving crews found the woman with water up to her waist, said Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for fire rescue.

Borroto said that the vehicle was in 3 feet of water and that rescue crews had to go into the canal to free her. The woman was evaluated for injuries and taken to West Boca Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available.
