After nearly three years since the death of Corey Jones, there’s still no trial date for the former Palm Beach Gardens police officer accused of unjustly shooting and killing Jones.

A judge canceled Nouman Raja’s July trial date Wednesday afternoon, saying she will set a new date once the appellate courts announce how they will rule on a matter in the case.
Raja’s lawyer filed his Writ of Prohibition to the Fourth District Court of Appeal thirty minutes before a status check hearing for Raja’s case on June 20.
Judge Samantha Schosberg Feuer denied Raja’s request to dismiss manslaughter and attempted murder charges based on the “stand your ground”defense in Jones’s death. Richard Lubin, Raja's attorney, is appealing that ruling.
Investigators say Raja was unjustified when he shot Jones in Oct. 2015 on the PGA Blvd exit ramp of Interstate 95 when Jones's car broke down.
“We feel that as a matter of law, we were entitled to a dismissal based on ‘stand your ground,’” Lubin said.
Judge Schosberg Feuer said she will wait two weeks to see what the appellate court decides to do before scheduling a new trial date.
“I just want to say that we are disappointed but we still remain faithful and focus on you know the trial whenever that’s going to happen,” said Sheila Banks, Jones’ aunt from his mother’s side.
The next court hearing will be on July 6.
