Law enforcement gather at Jupiter PD to remember St. Laurent.

Officer was killed during Obama 2012 visit

JUPITER, Fla. - One year ago Monday Jupiter Police Officer Bruce St. Laurent died while helping control traffic during a visit from President Barack Obama.

St. Laurent's family was invited to the White House this past May.

Fellow officers help a memorial service for St. Laurent Monday to remember his service to the community.

The police chief said he was moved by President Obama's invitation to the family.

"We went to the law enforcement memorial in D.C. The Secret Service escorted the family, and they visited with President Obama in the oval office for a period of time," said Chief Frank Kitzerow.

The motorcycle officer was a 20-year veteran of the force. The driver who hit and killed him was found not to be at fault.
