Sgt. Justin Johnson: Wake for Army sergeant scheduled for Friday afternoon in Hobe Sound

STUART -- This morning U.S. Army Sgt. Justin Johnson Sr.'s remains are resting in Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart.

At about 3:30 p.m., Martin County Sheriff's Office deputies will escort the casket to Peaceful Valley Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 12241 S.E. Lantana Ave., in Hobe Sound for visitation open to the public starting at 4 p.m. It will be until 7 p.m. Afterward, they will escort the casket back to the mortuary.

Members of the Patriot Guard are expected to be in the procession, as they were Wednesday when the remains arrived by charter airplane at Witham Field.

Then, residents greeted the flag-draped casket, waving flags, some wiping tears, others saluting the hearse as it passed them.

Many people at Witham Field clutched American flags and silently watched as Johnson's mother, Sonia Randolph of Hobe Sound, broke down into screaming sobs when his casket came off the plane around 10:30 a.m.

Fire rescue officials displayed a large American flag from ladder trucks. They also performed a "water cannon salute" -- a ceremonial cleansing -- over the airplane.

On Saturday, a celebration of life event begins at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 10100 S.E. Federal Highway, Hobe Sound. It is open to the public.

The body will be buried at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 State Road 7, Lake Worth, at a graveside service at 2:30 p.m.
