Vero Beach City: Police clear scene at City Hall

VERO BEACH — X-rays done on a suspicious briefcase found Thursday night outside Vero Beach City Hall revealed clothing and toiletries inside, according to city police Capt. Brian Conway.

City police cleared the scene about 7:30 p.m., opening the area to traffic. They had cordoned off the area between 20th Street and U.S. 1 and 10th and 11th avenues because of an unattended briefcase was found about 4:45 p.m. on the northeast corner of the building on 20th Place.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office bomb squad was called to the scene.
