Deputies: Backpack containing meth-making items found near an Indian River college and high school

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff's Office say that a backpack found Monday morning contained items used to make methamphetamine.

Deputies say that the backpack was found around 9 a.m. on the corner of College Lane and the entrance to the high school.

Witnesses reported the backpack was "bubbling" inside.

Investigators said the backpack contained some of the ingredients and equipment used to make a small amount of methamphetamine.

A hazardous material team from Indian River County Fire Rescue removed the materials.

Deputies said that the college was not in session on Monday, but students from the high school were kept away from the backpack, and the school remained open.

The Indian River County Multi Agency Criminal Enforcement Unit is investigating the incident and looking for the owner of the backpack.
