The Offspring's Noodles interview at SunFest: Guitarist tells us the origin of his name

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - I have to start by asking this question: Where did the name Noodles come from?

From just noodling on the guitar. Our producer at the time, Tom Wilson use to clean our tapes. So usually, when I would screw up on the tape, he would have to clean it up. He eventually got mad at me and use to say, "Where's that coming from Noodles!" And from then on, I kept the name ever since.

You're 50 years old, what keeps you rockin' and rollin' to perform in front of these large crowds?

The hotels do take a toll, they do have nice service and room service, but man I love doing it. I love coming out and putting on these great shows, getting up and acting like a fool on stage. It's all about playing good music for the fans, I just love it!

Outside of performing, I'm sure you had a chance to sight see on your downtime. Any favorite places?

We don't get to do a lot of that because the schedule is pretty rough, but had a chance to rent motorcycles in Australia, and in France, and also had a chance to surf in Australia, New Zealand, and in France. Japan is culturally one of the most different places we've ever been to, I just loved the food there.

Coolest person you've met?

Most folks are pretty cool and down to earth, meeting The Ramones was pretty cool.

How about Madonna?

Never met her, but she came to a show back in 90's but never had a chance to meet her.

Lady Gaga?

Never met Lady Gaga, but I'm actually a big fan of Lady Gaga.

Green Day?

Of course we know those guys from way back in the day before either of us were anything, we were sluggin it out in the punk rock world.

Linkin Park and Jay-Z?

We did a festival in Japan about 4 years ago and Jay-Z headlined, way before Beyonce came along.

Any artists that you haven't worked with? What would be the ultimate collaboration for you?

I would love to work with Keith Richards. There's always someone, we can all relate to, I just love how all of the genres of music flow these days because back then people only listened to one genre. Growing up people just listened to one genre but times have changed.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

To be honest, I would be happy with 20/20 vision. I have really bad eyesight, so that would make me happy. I do love surfing and the ocean, so if I had to choose another one, it would be the Aqua man.

How active are you on social media?

I try and tweet once a day, it's fun. Sometimes, I'll try and do more when something is funny and I'm laughing. No Instagram yet, I take sucky pictures, no one wants to see what I had for breakfast, but I'm sure I'll get there soon. Social Media is such a neat way to interact with fans these days.

What can fans expect from your performance tonight?

It's a big festival, so we plan to cover a lot. We plan to do more of our radio hits, feel good music. We plan to do some of the fast punk rock too for our sanity and for the hard core fans.
