Winter Equestrian Festival begins Wednesday in Wellington

The Winter Equestrian Festival starts Wednesday in Wellington. The event runs through March 31 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

The festival features thousands of equestrians from all over the world and attracts thousands of spectators as well.

Those coming to this year's event may notice some changes from last year's.

Equestrian Sport Productions, the company behind the festival, spent more than $38 million on improvements since last year's festival.

Those attending may notice improved stables for international level horses as well as a total makeover of the International Club.

Millions will also be spent by those coming out to the event.

According to the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, the festival brings in more than $100 million to Palm Beach County.

Visitors who come to the event from out of town have been found to spend money in Wellington and surrounding areas.

Millions are spent on lodging in area hotels, as well as on food and retail purchases.

Those coming to the event say they also like to travel outside of Wellington, to places such as downtown West Palm Beach and the Town of Palm Beach.

The festival runs Wednesdays through Sundays, starting at 8 a.m.
