Top 5 Memorial Day destinations in our area

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Memorial Day is a time to honor the servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, but it's also time for fun.

NewsChannel 5 has created a list of the top 5 things to do right here in our area this holiday.

#1 South Florida National Cemetery Ceremony

Of all the Memorial Day ceremonies in our area, the one at the South Florida National Cemetery is one of the largest.

The ceremony, organized by the Palm Beach County Veterans Committee, starts at 10 a-m Memorial Day.

It will not only honor the 13 thousand servicemen and women buried in the cemetery but also servicemen and women who served around the world.

#2  The National Navy SEAL Museum and Memorial in Fort Pierce

The memorial wall at the museum has 273 names of fallen SEALs and this Memorial Day, they'll add 7 more honoring those who served and died in one of the most elite military units in the world.

#3  Jonathan Dickinson State Park

There are more than 140 campsites on the park's grounds.

#4 Peanut Island

Kick off the boating season at one of South Florida's hottest spots for Memorial Day weekend.

If you're not on a boat, you can camp on the island so it's fun for the whole family.

Also, if Peanut Island is not your taste, there are miles of quiet oceanfront all along the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.
