A report issued by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue states that a deadly fire that claimed the lives of nine horses started in a room filled with electrical appliances.
LAKE WORTH, Fla. - At 12:08pm, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue units responded to reports of a fire at 4550 Polo Road in Lake Worth, according to Public Information officer Captain Albert Borroto.
Callers stated there was a fire and they were trying to get horses out of a barn.
When crews arrived they saw a large column of dark smoke from the barn and that at least 10 stalls were burning.
Firefighters commenced a defensive attack and protected the surrounding structures from the fire.
Seven horses died in the fire, according to a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue investigator.
At least four horses were rescued.
The fire is under control and no other structures were affected.
Investigators have ruled the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature.
The barn is located at Gulfstream Polo in Lake Worth.
