Jupiter police officer Jason Starks injured in crash
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Update: According to Jupiter Police Department spokesman Scott Pascarella, officer Jason Sparks has been released from the hospital.
A car accident on I-95 leaves a Jupiter police officer in serious condition, says Lieutenant Tim Frith, spokesman for Florida Highway Patrol.
According to Frith, Officer Jason Starks, 34, was hit by another car whose driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The accident happened around 4:45 Sunday morning in the northbound lanes of I-95 just north of Military Trail.
Sergeant Scott Pascarella, spokesman for the Jupiter Police Department, says Starks was leaving the county jail when the accident occurred.
According to Frith, Steven Carl Klix, 30, was traveling northbound on I-95 when he fell asleep and hit the concrete barrier wall.
Klix's car then traveled into the path of Officer Starks and the two vehicles collided.
Officer Starks's vehicle overturned and crashed into a tree before coming to final rest on the grass shoulder.
Officer Starks is in serious condition at St. Mary's Hospital, according to Frith.
