TUPELO, Miss. - A dramatic video was released Wednesday, showing the destruction left behind when a tornado tore through a church playground in Tupelo.
The video was taken April 28 from a security camera that was mounted outside St. Luke United Methodist Church.
The five-minute clip begins with daylight, but the camera quickly shifts into night mode as the storm bears down.
About a minute into the clip, conditions deteriorate rapidly, with wind-whipped rain preceding ferocious winds that brought trees down in the background and left debris scattered throughout the playground.
The clip ends with daylight returning amidst the chaotic mess left behind by the EF-3 tornado, which packed winds of up to 150 mph.
There were no deaths in Tupelo from the storm, but storms from April 27-30 killed 35 people and injured more than 200.
