Falling ice damages parked Texas cars (VIDEO)

PLANO, TX - Warmer weather was a welcome change on Sunday, but it came at a cost at a couple of apartment buildings near the popular Shops at Legacy complex.

Sheets of ice about two inches thick slid from rooftops at Northside at Legacy and Parkside at Legacy about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Nicole Jaime watched from the fifth floor and recorded what happened on her smart phone.

"My dog started barking. You could hear the ice break away from the roof," Jaime said.

Her video shows ice falling on a parked car and several large sheets crashing into the street.

Another person recorded a different ice slide and uploaded it to YouTube.

Vehicles bounced as the heavy ice came tumbling down.

It fell like bricks, shredding trees, shattering windows, and crushing cars.

The roar awoke Julie Coffey from a nap.

"It's horrible," she said. "I hope they have insurance. I'm glad no one got hurt, because a lot of people walk dogs in this neighborhood."

Remarkably, sidewalks were empty and no one was hurt, leaving cars as the only casualty.

At least eight of them were damaged or destroyed as melting ice tumbled five stories to the ground.
