A.J. Clemente TODAY Show interview video: Former KFYR-TV anchor speaks out after cursing on air

BISMARCK, N.D. - It was a heck of an introduction to his new television audience for one news anchorman.

A.J. Clemente, a weekend news anchorman for a North Dakota television station, said he was fired after he opened his first-ever broadcast with obscenities.

Clemente appeared on the TODAY Show Wednesday morning and discussed his "rookie mistake" with Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie.

The NBC affiliate KFYR-TV posted an apology to its viewers online after the incident and co-anchorwoman Van Tieu also apologized during a 10 p.m. newscast.

Clemente said on TODAY that he though his firing was warranted and holds no hard feelings.

Video of Clemente's two-word uttering was immediately posted online via social media sites, and the hashtag "Keep AJ" started trending on Twitter in support of the self-described West Virginia University graduate.

Clemente appeared flustered after uttering the expletives.

Clemente tweeted after the broadcast: "That couldn't have gone any worse!"
