St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin & Palm Beach schools cancel after-class activities

Due to severe weather

Due to the threat of severe weather Thursday afternoon, the St. Lucie County school system is canceling all athletic contests, after-school club meetings and related activities, including 21st Century afterschool programs.

School buses will run at normal dismissal times.

Aftercare programs, such as Boys & Girls Club and YMCA, will remain in operation.

If you have any questions regarding a specific event, you are urged to contact the individual school.

A school messenger notice will go out to all students.

In Indian River County, the district sent this message on its Twitter account: All outdoor after school activities have been canceled for this afternoon and evening. It advises parents to check with your child's school for any further cancelations.

In Palm Beach County schools are canceling after school activities & adult ed. classes tonight because of impending storms but classes are letting out at normal times. After school child care programs will remain open.  However, parents are encouraged to pick up their children early, if possible.  

Vickie Middlebrooks, spokesperson for the Palm Beach County School District, says schools will be open tomorrow. She said there is a false rumor that classes are canceled on Friday. They are not.

Due to impending severe weather all after school activities are also canceled in Martin County.

The district issued this message:

Due to impending severe weather in the area, all after-school activities in the Martin County School District for today – Thursday, March 6 - are cancelled. 

This includes athletic events, club meetings, and similar activities, as well as Elementary School Conference Night, which has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 13. 

Parents of students in the District’s Extended Day programs are asked to pick up their children by 4 pm today, if possible, to ensure that all students and faculty arrive home safely.

Again, all after-school activities in the Martin County School District are cancelled today, including the postponement of tonight’s Elementary School Conferences.

In Okeechobee County all sporting events and after-school activities at the secondary level are canceled. Events at the elementary level will be moved inside. And after-school and daycare activities will continue.



Due to inclement weather all Jupiter Town Facilities and parks are closed for today March 6, 2014. This includes all classes and scheduled events for those facilities.
