Tropical update: Tropical Depression 1 forms off Florida coast

Tropical Depression 1 has now formed. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from Fort Pierce north. It's moving SW at this time, but will turn north Wednesday and will likely form into a tropical storm within 36 hours. When/if it does it will receive the name Arthur.

A well-defined low off So. Florida has winds of about 30-35 mph.

The low is moving southwestward at around 5 mph, but is expected to turn westward tonight and northward by Wednesday when it will be near the east coast of Florida.

A turn toward the northeast near the southeastern U.S. coast is expected by Thursday.

We are expecting shower and thunderstorm activity to continue Monday afternoon and night, as bands of rain move in from this system.
