Tropical Storm Debby batters Cedar Key

The wind and rain have shut down most of the popular areas of Cedar Key, Florida.

Waves have been crashing along the shore on Dock Street. City officials have closed a portion of the road.

The waves have been so strong that they have damaged the water pipes underneath several restaurants, forcing the stores to close until further notice.

Many residents have stopped by to watch Mother Nature's fury.

Those who frequent the area have been surprised by Debby's strength.
"Just the strongness (sic) of the storm and the duration of it, with all the rain in such a short period of time and the destruction we've seen on the dockside area," said Greg Smith, a Cedar Key resident.

The police chief said officials are keeping a close eye on streets that typical flood.

Cedar Key has been in a drought, so the rain has been welcome.
