Hurricane Sandy school closings: Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee County

PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOLS:

Palm Beach County Public Schools will be closed all day on Friday and employees should not report to work.

The National Weather Service forecasts indicate that on Friday sustained winds are expected to reach 35 to 45 miles per hour along the coast with gusts to up 60 miles per hour.

School officials say, as a safety precaution, they plan to avoid operating school buses if sustained winds are forecast to exceed 35 miles per hour, as student and staff safety is their highest priority.

Saturday academic activities, such as ACT and SAT testing, Student Government Association ( SGA) and Debate activities will take place as planned.

Weekend athletic competitions are canceled and will be rescheduled. Saturday indoor leases only will take place. Outdoor leases are canceled. Sunday indoor and outdoor leases will take place.

PALM BEACH COUNTY PRIVATE SCHOOLS:

The Sacred Heart Catholic School will be closed on Friday, October 26 .

Benjamin School will be closed on Friday, October 26.

The King's Academy  campus's will be closed Friday October 26.

Glades Day School will be closed Friday, October 26.

The Sacred Heart Catholic School in Lake Worth will be closed on Friday, October 26.

Pine Crest School Boca Raton campus will be closed Friday, October 26.

Suncoast Christian Academy in Lake Worth will  be closed Friday, , October 26.

Our Lady Learning Center will be closed on Friday , October 26.

Tiny Tots Learning Center Palm Springs will be closed all day Friday , October 26.

Baldwin Prep School in North Palm Beach will be closed Friday.

Jupiter Christian School will be closed Friday, October 26 .

Suncoast Christian Academy in Lake Worth will be closed Friday , October 26.

Our Lady Learning Center in West Palm Beach will be closed on Friday.

Tiny Tots Learning Center Palm Springs will close all day Friday.

Kids College in Palm Springs will close on Friday, October 26.    

Montessori Independent Learning Center will be closed on Friday, October 26.

Trinity Christian School in Palm Beach Gardens will have no classes Friday.

Jupiter Academy will have no classes Friday.

Wayne Barton Study Center will be closed on Friday.

R.J. Hendley in Riviera Beach will be closed on Friday.

My Choice Academy Charter School in Riviera Beach be closed on Friday.

Montessori School at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens closed Friday

Faith Lutheran School in North Palm Beach closing today at 5:00 p.m. and all day Friday.

The Weiss School in Palm Beach Gardens will close on Friday, October 26th

My Choice Academy Charter School in Riviera Beach will be closed on Friday, October 26th.

Juno Beach Prep School will be closed Friday and Saturday. The ACT scheduled on Saturday is also canceled.  It will be rescheduled at later date to be announced. 

Atlantis Academy of the Palm Beaches will closedon Friday October 26.

Clark Forest Hill Montessori School closed Friday.

The Little Place & The Little Place Too in Wellington will be closed on Friday, October 26th .

Gulf Stream School students will be dismissed at 2:20 p.m. After School Program and Physical Education Classes are canceled on Thursday October 26.

IDEAL Elementary and Dream Middle School will be closed Friday. All afterschool events are canceled.

Imagine Schools Chancellor campus dismissal today at noon, closed Friday.

Sandy Rainbow Kids Learning Center closes today at 3:00 p.m. and will be closed Friday.

Academy for Little People of West Palm Beach and Lake Park closed Friday.

Palm Beach Christian Academy will be closed on Friday.

Jupiter First Church Preschool will be  closed Friday, Oct. 26th.

Bright Futures Child Development Center in Lake Park will be closed Friday, October 26th.

St. Paul Lutheran School will be closed on Friday.

Baldwin Prep School in North Palm Beach will be closed on Friday.

Central Baptist Preschool will be closed on Friday

MARTIN COUNTY SCHOOLS

All Martin County Public Schools and District offices will be closed on Friday, October 26 th for students and staff.

The Extended Day program and all Adult Education programs are also closed on Friday, October 26th. 

All after-school activities and evening events are canceled for Friday, October 26.

All Martin County schools will follow an early release on Thursday, October 25. All students will be released from school two hours earlier than normal, due to Hurricane Sandy, according to a news release. 

All afterschool activities, evening classes, and evening programs are also canceled for Thursday, October 25.

MARTIN COUNTY PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Peace Christian Academy, located in Palm City, FL,  will be closed on Friday, October 26 due to Hurricane Sandy.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY SCHOOLS

St. Lucie Public Schools had scheduled a student holiday on Friday

October 26,  however, employees should report to work as scheduled, Friday will be a normal workday. If the storm track changes, an advisory will be distributed.

Practices and contests for Friday are postponed or canceled. Schools are notifying parents of the status of any extracurricular events. Any updates will be provided at www.stlucieschools.org , the St. Lucie County Education Channel on cable Channels 13 and 19, and by local media.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Treasure Coast Christian Academy in St. Lucie West & Port St. Lucie will be closing at 1:00 pm today and all day Friday.

Liberty Baptist Academy of Fort Pierce will be closed Friday.

St. Anastasia School in Fort Pierce will be closed on Friday, October 26.

Liberty Baptist Academy of Fort Pierce will be closed Friday, October 26.

John Carroll High School will be closed on Friday, October 26, 2012.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY SCHOOLS

Indian River County School district announced that all schools, including charter schools, will be closed on Friday, October 26, due to the possibility of high winds and heavy rain, as Hurricane Sandy passes our coast. 

All school district offices will be closed, as well. All school events scheduled for this afternoon are canceled, EXCEPT FOR extended day programs, which will remain open. 

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Twentieth Avenue Christian Learning Center will be closed Friday, October 26.

COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY INFORMATION

Florida Atlantic University is monitoring Hurricane Sandy. As of the 5 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, all of the FAU service area remains under a tropical storm warning. A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere in the warning area within 24 to 36 hours. FAU campuses and sites will likely experience periods of high winds and possibly locally heavy rains through Friday. At this time, FAU classes and business operations are operating normally, with the exception of the changes listed below. The A.D. Henderson School and Slattery Center have canceled school and all events for Friday, October 26.  FAU will continue to monitor Hurricane Sandy and make further announcements as warranted. 

The next scheduled update will be posted here on Thursday, October 25 at 9 p.m. 

Palm Beach State College continues to monitor the progress of Hurricane Sandy and the advisories from the National Hurricane Center. At this time, Palm Beach State classes and operations are being held as scheduled. A tropical storm warning has been posted for much of the Florida East Coast, which means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere in the warning area within the next 24 to 36 hours.  Faculty, staff and students are urged to use caution when traveling. The Lynn University Hurricane Response Team is closely monitoring the progress of Hurricane Sandy. As of the last advisory, our area is under a Tropical Storm warning. A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere in the warning area within 24 to 36 hours. However, there is no immediate threat to Lynn's campus at this time. The university will remain open and classes will continue as scheduled. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide an update after 12 p.m. today (Thursday). Palm Beach Atlantic University   fall break begins Friday with no classes scheduled in West Palm Beach or Wellington.   

Northwood University Florida classes and all offices and classes will operate normally on Friday. Faculty, staff and students should use caution when traveling to or from the University.
