Boca Raton, FL (November 17, 2009) – The award-winning drama department at Pope John Paul II High School is stepping up to the plate with the classic musical comedy Damn Yankees.  The play runs from Friday, November 20 through Sunday, November 22 at the school’s theater, located on campus at 4001 N. Military Trail in Boca Raton.

“This is one of the most beloved plays in the history of American musical theater,” said Vincent Castellano, artistic director. “And it’s easy to see why.  It has everything you think of when you think of timeless Broadway – a great story, memorable characters and incredible music, including the unforgettable ‘Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets.’

The plot itself is a modern retelling of the Faust legend and one man’s deal with the devil.  In this case, that man is Joe Boyd, long-suffering Washington Senators fan who’d do anything, including sell his soul, to see his favorite team beat the Yankees.  The motivations may be timeless, but the setting is uniquely American, brought to life by a cast of 75 exceptionally talented students.

The play will have three showings: Friday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 22 at 3:00 p.m.  Tickets are $12 for adults and seniors and $5 for students and children.  To purchase seats, call the box office at (561) 314-2157.

Pope John Paul II High School is a Catholic college-preparatory high school enrolling 464 young men and women from Boca Raton and surrounding communities in southern Palm Beach and northern
Broward counties.  The school opened in 1980 and operates under the auspices of the Diocese of Palm Beach.
