TULSA - Oral Roberts University junior basketball player Steven Roundtree was arrested Sunday after assaulting his girlfriend who is 23 weeks pregnant with his child, police said.
According to his arrest report Roundtree struck his girlfriend in the mouth with his hands, grabbed her by the face and pulled her throughout an apartment in the 8900 block of South Wheeling.
Police say Roundtree also held the victim down while covering her face with a pillow in an attempt to suffocate her. The victim told police it was difficult to breathe.
During the assault, the victim tried to call 911, but Roundtree took the phone away and destroyed it to prevent her from calling for police or medical assistance, the police report states.
When police arrived at the residence Roundtree fled on foot.
Roundtree was arrested on several complaints including domestic assault and battery by strangulation, domestic abuse and interfering with an emergency call.
Jail records show he is scheduled to appear in court May 13.
