State championship-winning coach Doug Socha is coaching the flag football team at Oxbridge Academy

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- When Oxbridge Academy decided to add flag football to its sports menu the school didn't have to look very far for a head coach.

Doug Socha, who continues to work towards varsity football on campus, is coaching girls for the first time in his 15-year career.

"The AD approached me about doing it so here we are trying to figure out how to play girl's flag football," Socha said.

Considering this is a new adventure for everyone, neither Socha nor his players know exactly what to expect.

"I know one girl is really excited about getting a manicure this week," Socha said with a smile.

The state championship-winning coach was hired on at Oxbridge Academy in August to help lead the school's varsity program.

Prior to joining the Thunderwolves, Socha served as the head coach at American Heritage where he compiled a 22-5 record over two seasons, including a 3A state title in 2011.

Socha and the girls play their first game of the season on Wednesday at Palm Beach Central.
