Two hard-hitting members of the Park Vista secondary have consummated their Division 1 college commitments.
Marques Gayot is official to Miami, while Renard Cheren inked his National Letter of Intent to Northern Illinois on Wednesday.
Gayot (6-1, 215) was the highest rated defensive back on the ESPN 106.3 Top 63 Seniors list (No. 8) and one of the more violent defensive players in the region. He committed to Louisville in mid-April but flipped to the Hurricanes in December following several weeks of interest from UM head coach Al Golden.
"I'm very happy it's over," Gayot said. "The whole recruiting process was very stressful with coaches calling and messaging you but now everything is final and I'm proud of my decision."
Like Gayot, his defensive backfield mate Cheren also switched a commitment. Cheren gave Ron Turner and FIU a pledge following a visit in June, but after watching the Panthers faceplant through a 1-11 season and with serious interest coming from NIU, Cheren opted for the Huskies in early September.
"I built a good relationship with coach Kane (NIU assistant coach/linebackers coach Kevin Kane) and I liked him a lot and we talked on the phone almost every day," Cheren said. "When I went up there on my visit I loved it and I actually loved the cold weather a lot."
