Florida Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez resigns

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Florida Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez resigned Sunday morning with the team in the throes of an epic skid.

The Marlins have lost 17 of 18 entering today's 1:40 p.m. road game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rodriguez became a major-league manager for the first time almost a year ago. On June 23, he replaced Fredi Gonzalez, whom the Marlins had fired.

He will be replaced on an interim basis by bench coach Brandon Hyde.

Larry Beinfest, the Marlins' president of baseball operations, said this morning that the Marlins will spend today and tomorrow deciding on an interim manager for the rest of the season
