Renderings of a David Beckham-backed MLS Soccer stadium have been released; they show what a stadium might look like if based at the Port of Miami.
“When people think of Miami, they immediately think about being near or on the water. I asked my team to develop ideas for a stadium that embraces the best of the destination. Even though we are in the early stages of building the franchise, I believe we have a vision that not only Miami would be proud of, but one that will resonate around the world," Beckham said in the statement.
NBC6.com reports that the port site comes with some issues, including Miami-Dade County Commissioners who are concerned about traffic and port operations.
There's also the matter of parking and the opposition from port tenant Royal Caribbean.
It said the plan calls for an unused drawbridge that connects downtown Miami and the port to be converted into a linear park for pedestrians.
