BATH TOWNSHIP, Ohio - LeBron James' neighbors at his home in Ohio got a sweet treat for enduring the sour conditions over the past few weeks leading up to his decision to return home to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The card accompanying the cupcakes read in part: "Dear Friend, We know things have been hectic in the neighborhood these past few weeks. We are so thankful to live in this wonderful community and we are so blessed to have understanding neighbors like you."
The gesture referenced the crowds of fans and media that lined the streets during the days leading up to and following his decision to return home.
David Galehouse lives on Fryman Drive, a street away from LeBron's, and was really appreciative of the gesture.
"I thought it was really great of him to do that. He's never done anything like that in the past."
Galehouse wasn't home when the cupcakes were delivered but his cousin Laura Basford and her boyfriend Jon Cheyney were stopping by to see Galehouse's mom when they first spotted the delivery.
"At first we were laughing at it because we had no idea what was going on," Basford said. "Initially we were thinking they were trying to sell something from door to door but then we found out they were from LeBron. I think it was a really neat gesture."
Both Galehouse and Cheyney tweeted out pictures that were quickly picked up by ESPN and other big names in sports media.
They were both buried in their phones responding to questions and allowing media from all over to use their pictures for news stories.
They all have sampled a few of the cupcakes, which of course have unique names.
"Just A Kid From Akron Cherry Cola" cupcake and "Homecourt Chocolate Chunk" cupcake were included in the box of a dozen.
The cupcakes are also available to the public at Baker Boulevard Decadent Desserts at 2890 Sand Run Parkway in Fairlawn. If that isn't sweet enough, half of the proceeds of the two LeBron-themed cupcakes benefit the LeBron James Family Foundation.
Even once the cupcakes are long-gone, the card from LeBron will have a permanent home on the refrigerator at the Galehouse home.
