WELLINGTON, Fla. - Mike Ryan faces plenty of struggles teaching the game of golf to young players at Binks Forest Golf Club in Wellington, but it's nothing compared to what Ryan faces in his personal life.
His 21-year-old son, Michael Jr., has autism and has suffered serious medical problems in the past year.
Michael Jr. is unable to attend school anymore, and the Ryan family has been on their own to take care of their son and his rising medical costs that their insurance won't cover.
On Friday, December 9, Binks Forest Golf Club will be holding the 'We Are Family Golf Tournament," sponsored by Autism in Action, for Michael Jr.
"They came to me and asked me, said they wanted to do it, and we needed them. We needed it," said Ryan. "And I'm really happy that they're trying to help me. It's something really extraordinary. I didn't expect it."
100 percent of the day's proceeds will go to helping Michael and the Ryan family. And Mike Sr., who has turned down similar offers in the past, couldn't be more grateful to his home club.
