Chad Johnson: Miami Dolphins cut wide receiver reports say

ESPN and Fox Sports are both reporting that the Miami Dolphins have cut controversial wide receiver Chad Johnson.

Earlier Sunday Johnson was released from  jail on $2,500 bond. He had been charged with domestic violence after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument.

Johnson's defense attorney, Adam Swickle, says a no-contact order has been issued that prevents Johnson from contacting his wife, Evelyn Lozada.

Such orders are common in domestic violence cases.

Swickle declined to comment further.

Police say Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was arrested Saturday. He is accused of head-butting his wife during an argument in front of their Miami home. Davie police Capt. Dale Engle said the argument started when Lozada confronted Johnson about a receipt she had found for a box of condoms.

Profootballtalk.com reported that Johnson was on a 'one strike' arrangement with the team.

The Sun Sentinel reports Johnson's release came after he met with head coach Joe Philbin.

Miami Herald reporter Armando Salguero confirmed the release. He tweeted:" I'm told the decision to cut Chad Johnson was made by Joe Philbin. Ownership backed his call unconditionally."

According to the Palm Beach Post , Johnson will not collect any money from the one-year, $925,000 contract he signed in June.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
