Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson was officially charged Wednesday in a domestic violence case, according to the Broward State Attorney's Office.
The flamboyant football player is facing one count of misdemeanor domestic battery for allegedly head-butting his wife, reality show personality Evelyn Lozada, prosecutors said.
Johnson was arrested Aug. 11 at his home in Davie, where he lived with Lozada. They had been arguing over a receipt found in his car that showed the purchase of condoms. She had a neighbor call 911; arriving officers noticed a cut on Lozada's forehead, according to the investigative report.
She was treated at a hospital and he was taken to the Broward County Jail. The Dolphins released him shortly thereafter.
Johnson was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning. He is expected to file a written plea of not guilty instead of appearing in court.
The charge is punishable by one year in the Broward County Jail, prosecutors said.
