Age can't slow down Boca Raton 78-year-old cyclist, Richard Mersitz.
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- In sports you don't find too many athletes getting better with age.
But one Boca Raton man is proving everyone wrong.
Richard Mersitz cycles over 100 miles per week, even at the young age of 78.
"If I'm in the gym doing yoga they'll say you don't need to, you're in pretty good shape," Mersitz said.
Richard, who lives with his wife at the Boca Raton ACTS Retirement-Life Community, picked up the sport of cycling in the 90s.
When he relocated to South Florida in 2002, he joined the Boca Raton Bicycling Club.
The Bronx, New York native had his knee replaced in 2006. Think that slowed him down? Think again.
"I biked 60 days after having my knee replaced," he said. "It'll be seven years in July and we guessed about 21,000 miles."
