The crew of a Japanese fishing boat was hoping to haul in a large catch of yellowfin tuna.
Instead, what they encountered was a 360-pound squid.
The fisherman, Shigenori Goto, and the crew of his boat caught the squid off the coast of Sado Island, in the frigid seas of northern Japan.
Experts said the squid lost its super-long tentacles during the capture. It died shortly after being hauled to the surface on Jan. 8.
Pictures from Niigata Prefecture showed the scale of the squid, and video provided by Goto showed it swimming up to his boat.
