South Korea's president says she will push to disband coast guard in wake of ferry disaster

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- South Korea's president says the country's coast guard failed in its rescue efforts during last month's ferry disaster that left more than 300 people dead or missing. So, she's pushing to disband it.

President Park Geun-hye (goon-hay) says lawmakers should transfer the coast guard's responsibilities to the National Police Agency and a new government body she plans to establish.

A month after the sinking, 286 bodies have been retrieved but 18 others are still missing.
