NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Authorities say a shark nipped a surfer's foot along Florida's Atlantic coast.
Beach Patrol Capt. Tammy Marris tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal that the surfer had minor cuts and declined an ambulance after the bite Saturday afternoon.
Marris says the bite happened in about 4 feet of water near the jetties off New Smyrna Beach. The type of shark that bit the surfer wasn't known.
It's the third shark bite reported this year near the jetties. March is an active shark month off Volusia County beaches, as temperatures warm up and sharks begin migrating north. Most bites are minor and most involve surfers.
